Gemeinsam mit meinem Bruder haben wir einen Einblick in den Pinal Airpark bekommen. Von der zeitlichen Geschichte bis hin zu den aktuellen Tätigkeiten die stattfinden. Eine Tour über das Feld, wo wir Flugzeuge fotografieren konnten und somit ganz nah an ihnen dran waren!

Hunderte eingemottete Flugzeuge aller Art warten hier dadrauf wieder gebraucht zu werden. Es Fehlt leider eine Aussichtsplattform um einen schönen Überblick zu bekommen.

This is a scrapyard for airplanes.
Very surreal and a phantastic opportunity to make great fotos.
Most planes can be seen well through the fence, distance is not very far.
Just 10 minutes off the highway.
For aviationists this is worth a tiny detour

Off I10 north of Tucson the Pinal Airpark is visible in the distance. Just thought I'd take a look. Seems it's a commercial airplane recycle center. If you are looking for somewhere to eat, there's a bar and grill which has good reviews.

Had a keen interest in the planes stored at Pinal Airpark for a while. Searched around on the internet and spoke with the Airpark’s Director, Jim. Jim was very courteous and we organised a tour and provided all the necessary directions and details (which was brilliant as a non-Citizen of the US).

Jim gave us a small background in the Airpark’s history and was able to answer any questions we had. Shortly afterwards, we jumped into a vehicle to tour the Airpark. Understandably, you are not allowed to take any photographs within the active runway and storage areas as the site operates as a private business. 6 decommissioned Boeing 747’s are on site and you can have photos taken with and can go up close to them.

Work is currently taking place at the site meaning that tours can be a bit fluid in the route you take however Jim made us aware and would also detail some facts about the planes that were stored. He even talked about the US National Guard station located at the Northwestern end of the runway. We were even lucky enough to see training exercises with US Soldiers Parachuting at the site.

The tour all in all lasted around 45 minutes to 1 hour and offers a great insight into a piece of Arizona’s Aviation History as well as a fantastic place to go for those looking at an in-depth look at stored Aircraft.

It would be great to get to see the planes up close. Many airlines have some style of plane stored here. SPIRIT had a row prepared for some storage and China Air was scraping some of their older fleet. The only area open to the is the restaurant. All other areas are locked up. It was also interesting to see the base housing, now pretty much closed too.

Just a few miles off of I-10, Pinal Airpark is definitely worth at least a brief stop. While it might not seem all that inviting, ever since Evergreen International went out of business, thus ending their lease on the property and leading to the transfer of the airport to Pinal County, the Pinal Airpark has been technically open to the public. That doesn't mean it's all that accessible. Still, everything on the east side of the ramp that isn't gated off is fair game, as it gawking over the past-their-prime beasts that are being stored or recycled.

But things get better! If you get in touch with the Airpark office, you might luck out and be able to arrange a tour with the staff. They're super friendly. The tour is casual and there's no agenda. But I received a ride around the field and a chance to walk amongst some retired Queens of the Sky.

The Pinal County Airpark, located in Marana, Arizona, northwest of Tucson, is a county-owned airport just north of the Pinal/Pima county line along Interstate 10. It was originally known Marana Army Air Field.

On the grounds of the airport are a variety of tenants, both private sector and government.

One primary function is serving as a "boneyard" for civilian commercialaircraft as well as airliner storage, reconfiguration, and reclamation. Out-of-service airliners are stored there since the dry, low humidity of the Sonoran desert provides an ideal storage environment.

But the friendly staff let you drive around and take as many pictures you want. Remember to be respectful always and not litter
