Really not a great airport. I never have a good experience there. They always try to sell you a VIP ticket which allows you VIP treatment which is a joke and not worth it honestly. Upon landing we were attacked and eaten alive by mosquitoes at this airport. It’s so bad that air Canada has to spray repellent in their planes to prevent bringing them back to Canada. Security and the people who work there are kind and friendly but the airport is hot, crammed up with not many food options either. The only coffee they sell is in a baby plastic cup. No decent size coffee. Very little plug outlets to charge your devices. It’s Cuba! Can’t expect much.

Even by Cuban Standards this is a terrible airport. Very disorganized.
Arrival: chaotic, poorly laid out security lanes lanes are poorly or inaccurately signed leading to a mess. Then security scanners are located so closed to exit doors from emigration booths I leads to another labyrinth....people working the security are slow, and rude. Only two scanners out of 3 were running....official shut down another one for good measure forcing a few of us to start again at the back of the line....all these in sweltering heat as there is no A/C. Baggage claim took over an hour....bags came out one a time...if any. Baggage handlers are trying to run scams by taking bags randomly out of the conveyor so u pay them for carrying your bags....trolleys are free....

Pas mal pour un aéroport cubain. Plusieurs boutiques qui vendent les mêmes bébelles, un resto, un bar, pas de clim pantoute sauf au salon VIP. Deux boutiques Duty Free.

Enregistrement et sécurité super rapide, comme souvent à Cuba. Et surtout, à 15 minutes pile du Melia Cayo Coco et Sol Cayo Coco.

delayed flight, long waiting because the whole system was broken. Staff were using a pen and a piece of paper for check in ?, (THE STAFF IS DOING THEIR BEST WITH WHAT THEY HAVE) .
Its very depressing to see the struggle, would love to see Cuba open up to the world and allow their citizens a chance in life. They deserve better.

This is a small airport.

When we arrived, alighting the plane was quick. They used staircase cars on two exits for the passengers. Customs was fairly quick as well. As we are still in a pandemic, Cuba requires you to fill in a form online before your arrival. Someone checked that here before we went to customs. Afterwards, we went through baggage claim and exited the airport.

When we departed from the airport, someone was checking temperatures before we were allowed to enter the airport. We flew with Air Transat so the check in counter was processing the passengers fairly quickly. There was another airline here. The counter appeared to be extremely crowded and it didn't appear to be moving as fast.

Once past the check in and customs, there are duty free options here, many shops, a cigar shop and some fast food options. It is extremely hot here. The only air conditioning that appeared to be working was in the duty free shops and next to the fast food place. There is free Wi-Fi here but only for 30 minutes. We didn't get a chance to browse the shops before the announcement came that we were boarding. The announcement was hard to understand, but we heard the destination 'Toronto' and checked both gates.

Overall, for Cuba, this is a good airport. Could be better, but there are issues due to the pandemic that is out of their hands. If I applied North American standards, this airport would be more of a 3.5 or a 4. Giving it 5 because considering life in real Cuba, this airport is exceptional.

A small, well organized, clean and efficient airport. Going through customs was quick and easy. The washroom stalls are quite a bit shorter than what I'm used to. All purchasable items are in USD (they do accept CAD) even though most flights are traveling to and from Canada. The prices of souvenirs and snacks (not a lot of variety) are very expensive. All employees that I dealt with were friendly and helpful. I did find it strange to see random kittens walking around begging for scraps of food, it didn't bother me, they were cute, I just thought it was odd.

Very slow service. It takes them 5 minutes to register one bag. I don't know if it's their computer system being so sluggish or the employees being unskilled.
In this enormous building, there are no air conditioners, period. Not even ceiling fans! Neither in the arrival hall, nor in the check-in area, nor in the waiting lounge. Everyone is simply suffering from the heat. I had a thermometer, and the air temperature was 32 degrees Celsius! Without any air circulation.
Add to this, floor-to-ceiling windows facing south without any blinds.
It's just a tremendous lack of respect for passengers - not providing even the most basic amenities for people.
The internet is paid - you can buy cards from a kiosk and then struggle with entering a long code to log in.

The best thing what you can do at this airport is to pay for VIP service and lounge. You are sooner checked-in, you have faster passport control, lounge with food, alcohol drinks and free wi-fi. There are comfort sofas for sitting. And the best is, you have priority boarding even if you are in economy class.
